Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

Hidalgo, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Dorados (af2) roster for the 2006 season is quickly taking shape. Head Coach Marty Hammond has already assembled a list of 24 players who will attend the team's training camp in preparation for the third season of af2 football at Dodge Arena.

Six players on the camp roster are returnees from the 2005 campaign which saw the team reach the National Conference Finals, one game short of the league championship game.

Quarterback Josh Kellet's return was announced earlier, while last year's backup J.R. Davies is also set to return. Offensive/Defensive Linemen Antoine Murphy and John Bradley are expected to don Dorados jerseys this season, as are Wide Receivers/Defensive Backs Pierre Thomas and Travis McAlpine.

Davies appeared in three games last season and threw six touchdowns, finishing with a 97.2 QB rating. He was named the Offensive Player of the Game on July 9 at Bossier-Shreveport, throwing for five touchdowns and 263 yards.

McAlpine returns for his third season of af2 action and second with the Dorados. Last season, he played in 15 of the team's 16 games and caught seven touchdowns among his 46 receptions and 516 yards, good for third on the team. Defensively, he was third on the team with four interceptions including one touchdown.

Thomas played six games for the Dorados last season and was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Game three times while also picking three interceptions.

The Dorados kick off the 2006 af2 season on Friday, March 31 at Central Valley, and begin the home portion of the 16-game season Saturday, April 8 vs. Tulsa at Dodge Arena. Season tickets and corporate sponsorships are available now by calling (956)-843-7825.
