Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TX: August 1, 2005 - The Rio Grande Valley Dorados are thrilled to announce Vanessa Lopez of the Lack's Dorados Dance Team has earned a spot as a member of the Houston Rockets Power Dancers.

"The hard work paid off," said Dorados General Manager Grant Buckborough. "Not only is it great that through area sponsors like Lack's that we were able to open a door for someone to pursue a dream, but Vanessa took the opportunity to perform to her abilities, which has now landed her an opportunity to perform at the highest level."

Lopez, 23, recently graduated the University of Texas - Pan American (UTPA) in Edinburg with a degree in Dance Education. A native of Pharr, Lopez was a graduate of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo (PSJA) High School in 2000 and was a four-year member of the "Bearettes" drill team. While at UTPA, Lopez served on the UTPA Blazer Dance Team (Captain as a Senior), the UTPA Folkloric Dance Company. Lopez has also served as an intern at La Joya High School and as a Dance Instructor at Pointe and Plie Dance Studio, where she was part of their Flamenco and Belly Dance Company. She is in the midst of completing her second season with the Lack's Dorados Dance Team and is serving as a Captain on the team this season. Lopez will make her departure to Houston in two weeks to begin workouts with the Houston Rockets Power Dancers.

The Power Dancers have been performing at all Houston Rockets home games since the 95/96 season and have just over 20 members. They were named as the best dance team in the NBA by Sport Magazine and they also perform away from the arena at community events. The Lack's Dorados Dance Team performs at all Dorados home games at Chase Field/Dodge Arena and at several community functions throughout the Valley. They can be scheduled for community events and functions by contacting Sonia Perez at 956-843-5652. Dancers interested in trying out for the squad can email Dance Team Coordinator Janet Bernal at doradosdance@hotmail.com.

The Dorados return to action this Sunday night, as they host the Quad City Steamwheelers at Chase Field inside the Dodge Arena to open the National Conference Playoffs. Individual tickets for the game are already on sale. Additional info can also be found by visiting the Dorados online at www.doradosfootball.com.
