Dorados Announce Player Assignments, Training Camp Details

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 (af2) today announced more player assignments as well as details of the team's 2008 training camp.

The Dorados were assigned QB Travis Cole, WR Anthony Chambers, DB Robert Towns and FB/LB Steven Battle.

Cole is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound QB who has spent the last four seasons in the Arena Football League as a backup with the Utah Blaze and Arizona Rattlers. In eight career games, he threw 14 completions for 168 yards and one TD. In college, Cole transferred to Minnesota in 2000 from Foothill Junior College. In his two years as a Golden Gopher, he threw for 2,545 yards and 16 touchdowns. In 2002 Cole attended spring and summer practices with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Chambers played collegiate ball at Purdue University and has af2 experience with Bossier-Shreveport. In 2006, he led the team with 79 receptions, 13 TD and 958 yards.

Towns played in five games for the Dorados last season as a rookie. He had 28 tackles and two INT.

Battle graduated from Jacksonville University in 2006. As a senior, the five-foot-11, 245-pound Jacksonville native appeared in eight games and scored three TD. He also rushed for 151 yards on 34 carries. Defensively, he added three tackles and one forced fumble.

CAMP DETAILS

The Dorados open training camp for the 2008 season this Sunday, March 9, at 3 p.m. Camp will be held at Cats Stadium in Edinburg and is open to the public. The Dorados will hold a preseason scrimmage vs. Corpus Christi, at Edinburg, on Friday, March 14, at 12:45 p.m.

Camp will consist of two-a-days (10 a.m. and 2 p.m.) with the exception of Sunday, March 16 (3 p.m.) and Wednesday, March 19 (2 p.m.) until Friday, March 21.

Regular practices, once the 22-man roster is turned in on Monday, March 24, are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Regular season practices will take place at Dodge Arena when available.

ABOUT THE DORADOS

The Dorados went 15-1 last season and won the Southwest Division Championship. Several of last year's players have signed on to play with Arena Football League (AFL) teams, the top level of the indoor game.

Dorados single game tickets will go on sale at all TicketMaster outlets, including online and at the Dodge Arena Box Office, on Monday, March 31 at 10 a.m. Season and group tickets are already available by calling 956-843-7825. Tickets start as low as $112 for the full season and $14 for single games. Group tickets remain as low as $12 per game. The home half of the 2008 season kicks off on Saturday, April 26, vs. Bossier-Shreveport.
