Doig, Wellar Recalled to Toronto

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 26, 2007)- Forward Tyler Doig and defenseman Patrick Wellar have been recalled to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today.

"We are a developmental league, and any time we can have our players take the next step, it's really a boost for our organization and our players' careers," Mann said. "I wish Tyler and Patrick the best of luck at the next level."

Doig has one assist and six penalty minutes in two games in his first season as a professional. The 6-foot, 180-pound native of Seaforth, Ontario tallied 80 points (28 goals, 52 assists) and 55 penalty minutes in 61 regular season games during the 2006-07 season split between the Guelph Storm and Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League.

Wellar has two assists and two penalty minutes in two games during his first season in Columbia. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder from Carrot River, Sakatchewan had 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) and 101 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Alaska Aces, while notching one assist and nine penalty minutes in 21 games with the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL.

The Columbia Inferno will play their 2007-08 home opener Friday, Oct. 27 at the Carolina Coliseum.
