Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - 5.1 scoreless innings from the Chicago Dogs bullpen bought enough time for the Dogs to score four runs over the final three frames, rallying past the Wichita Wingnuts 5-2 on Friday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The Wingnuts (51-33) led 2-1 going into the top of the seventh inning, but Chicago (35-47) rallied to tie the game on a two-out RBI single from Mike Falsetti. The Dogs then surged in front with two more runs in the eighth, taking a 3-2 lead on a Dalton Blaser sacrifice fly before Stephen Perez plated another with a fielder's choice. The rally handed Wingnuts reliever Felix Carvallo (1-1) his first loss of the season, as the southpaw was tagged for five hits and three runs in 1.2 innings.

Chicago added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on another two-out single from Rubi Silva to produce the game's final margin.

Chicago's comeback spoiled a fantastic start from Seth Harvey, who tossed a career-high six innings while allowing just four hits and one run, but had to settle for the no-decision. Harvey struck out five and walked two.

An RBI triple from Stephen Perez got the scoring started in the top of the second, though Angel Reyes answered promptly with a solo home run leading off the bottom of the inning to knot the score at 1-1.

Wichita then grabbed the lead in fourth when Chicago starter Scott Barnes struck out John Nester, but did so on a pitch in the dirt that got to the backstop for a 2-1 Wingnuts lead.

Rich Mascheri (2-0) picked up the win for Chicago with two scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits while recording one strikeout.

The Wingnuts continue their series with the Dogs on Saturday night. Righty Tyler Kane (5-2, 5.33) starts for Wichita, while Chicago will counter with righty Trevor Simms (1-3, 3.14). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
