Dogs Trade for Alen, Vick from Winnipeg

LINCOLN - The Saltdogs acquired All-Star C Luis Alen and OF Logan Vick in a trade with Winnipeg for LHP Conor Spink and LHP Kevin McGovern.

Alen, a 2014 American Association All-Star, holds Winnipeg's franchise record for hits, doubles, RBI and walks after his seven seasons with the Goldeyes.

The 30-year old from Bolivar, Venezuela hit .275 with five home runs and 36 RBI in 2015 and boasts a career .306 batting average in the independent ranks.

Alen hit .317 as the starting catcher for Winnipeg's 2012 championship team. He began his professional career in the Marlins organization in 2003.

Vick had an outstanding all-around campaign for Amarillo in 2015, finishing tied for second in the league with eight triples and third in outfield assists with 10.

The 25-year old out of Baylor University hit .308 with 13 doubles, three home runs 38 stolen bases last season.

Vick was originally selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 11th round of the 2012 MLB draft and spent his first three professional seasons in the Tribe organization.

Spink, a stalwart in the Saltdogs bullpen during his four seasons with the club, has appeared in more games (140) than any other pitcher in franchise history.

The 27-year old from Eagle River, Alaska went 5-6 with a 5.72 ERA in 2015. He sports a career 3.62 ERA after four seasons with the Saltdogs.

McGovern led the Saltdogs in starts, innings pitched and strikeouts in 2015, finishing the year 5-8 with a 5.36 ERA.

In his four professional seasons, McGovern averages nearly one strikeout per inning.
