'Dogs Fall Late to the 'Cats 5-4

Manchester, N.H. - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (39-40) scored two runs in the eighth inning to beat the Portland Sea Dogs (38-38) 5-4 on Thursday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Portland dropped to .500 for the first time since they were 7-7 on April 19th.

Tyson Brummett (1-4) tossed a scoreless eighth to earn the win. Alan Farina stranded the bases loaded in the ninth to earn his second save in as many opportunities.

Miguel Celestino (1-6) was saddled with the loss, giving up two runs on three hits over 1.2 IP.

In the eighth, Brad Glenn walked with one out and advanced to third base on a Clint Robinson double. Glenn scored the tying run on wild pitch. Kevin Nolan's sac-fly to right field gave New Hampshire the lead for good.

Portland stranded seven runners in the final three innings, finishing the game 1-for-10 with runners-in-scoring position. Garin Cecchini and Christian Vazquez each had two hits.

In the second, Nolan gave New Hampshire a 1-0 lead with an infield single to score Clint Robinson, who tripled. After a fielder's choice, Kevin Ahrens nailed an RBI double to left field.

Drake Britton (ND, 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO, HR) allowed his first road homer of the season, as Brad Glenn launch a solo shot to left. Portland responded with the long ball, receiving a two-run blast by Travis Shaw, his sixth of the season.

Portland tied the game in the sixth inning off starter Sean Nolin. Michael Almanzar led off with a double to right field. J.C. Linares snapped a 1-for-29 slump, delivering a run-scoring single to center. In the seventh, the Sea Dogs took their only lead on Tony Thomas' bases-loaded walk against former Sea Dog Chorye Spoone. Evan Crawford entered the game with the bases still loaded, and retired all three batters.

New Hampshire leads the season series 6-5, and has won six straight.

The Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats continue their four-game series on Friday night from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (3-4, 4.31) gets the start for Portland. New Hampshire counters with righty Marcus Walden (5-7, 3.23)
