Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release

Papillion, Neb. - Back-to-back bases-loaded walks in the top of the 12th inning by Elian Herrera and Rico Noel broke a tie, and a sliding catch in the bottom of the inning by James Ramsey ended the game with the bases loaded, as the Oklahoma City Dodgers defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers, 5-3, Friday night at Werner Park.

The game had been tied since the eighth inning, when Omaha evened the score with back-to-back home runs. The Dodgers put the go-ahead run in scoring position with one or no outs in the each of the ninth, 10th, and 11th innings, but could not break through.

The top of the 12th inning started with a base hit by Rob Segedin - his fourth hit of the night. Later in the inning, O'Koyea Dickson was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Omaha reliever Mark Peterson then walked Herrera on four pitches to bring home the go-ahead run. Noel followed suit and also drew a free pass to make it 5-3.

The bottom of the 12th was filled with drama before the Dodgers secured the game. With a runner at first and one out, shortstop Zach Walters mishandled a grounder to put the tying runs on base. Tony Cruz followed with a walk to load the bases.

Pinch hitter Dusty Coleman came up next and tapped a weak grounder back to OKC reliever Luis Avilan, who threw to home to get a force out. With the bases still full, Whit Merrifield sent a fly ball to right field. Ramsey - who had just entered the game in the bottom of the 12th inning - made a sliding catch near the foul line to seal the win.

With the victory, the Dodgers (12-9) improved to 2-1 in extra-inning games this season. They also beat the Storm Chasers (14-8) for just the second time in the past 12 meetings between the teams, dating back to last season.

OKC never trailed during the contest. The Dodgers were able to get on the board in the first inning. With two outs, Segedin tripled, extending his current hitting streak to a career-best 13 games. Walters followed next with a double down the left field line to make it 1-0. Jose Tabata then collected an infield single, but Walters was thrown out trying to score from second base on the play.

Dickson extended the lead in the second inning. He sent a line drive into the left field bleachers for his first home run of the season, putting the Dodgers in front by two runs.

Dodgers starting pitcher Ian Thomas held the Storm Chasers scoreless through the first three innings while allowing just two singles. He retired nine of the 11 batters he faced, with six via strikeout.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Cheslor Cuthbert welcomed new Dodgers pitcher Jharel Cotton to the game with a solo home run, cutting OKC's lead to 2-1. Two batters later Brett Eibner doubled, but Cotton was able to strand him in scoring position to keep the lead intact.

The Dodgers couldn't capitalize on a great chance to score in the fifth inning after loading the bases with one out. Omaha pitcher John Lannan got Walters to softly line out to second base and Tabata to ground out to escape the jam.

With a runner a third and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, a hit batter and walk loaded the bases for Omaha. However, Dodgers reliever Sean Burnett got out of the inning after coaxing Cruz to into an inning-ending force out.

The Dodgers pushed across another run in the top of the eighth. Segedin led off the inning and a sent a fly ball near the right field line. The ball landed for a single, and Omaha outfielder Jorge Bonifacio committed a two-base fielding error to put Segedin at third base. Two batters later, Tabata sent a chopper to first base. Segedin took off on contact and was able to beat Balbino Fuenmayor's throw to the plate, giving the Dodgers a 3-1 lead.

The Storm Chasers tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. On the first pitch of the inning, Jose Martinez sent a booming to homer to left field to get the Storm Chasers back within one. Eibner came up next, and on a 2-2 pitch, evened up the score with a home run to left-center field.

OKC loaded the bases with one out in the 11th for Alex Hassan. Hassan fouled off six consecutive 1-2 pitches to keep his at-bat alive, but on the 10th pitch of his at-bat, Hassan sent a sharp grounder right to Omaha shortstop Clint Barmes, who started an inning-ending double play.

The Storm Chasers had their chance to win in the 10th, putting two men on with none out. After a strikeout and a ground out, Cruz drew a walk to load the bases, but Barmes popped out to end the inning.

Omaha struggled to get key hits all night and finished 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position, and stranded 16 runners on base. The Dodgers were similar, going 2-for-18 with runners in scoring position and leaving 14 runners on.

Chin-Hui Tsao picked up his first win of the season after holding the Storm Chasers scoreless in the 10th and 11th innings. Tsao (1-1) allowed two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Avilan picked up his first save of the season.

Omaha reliever Malcom Culver (1-1) was charged with the loss.
