Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - Chris Diaz singled home Reese McGuire and Eric Wood in the second inning for the only runs of the game for the Altoona Curve as they defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 2-1, clinching Altoona's first series win of the year at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Sunday afternoon.

Diaz's single answered a run from Richmond (6-12) in the top half of the inning, when Ali Castillo drove in Tyler Horan on a sacrifice fly to give the Squirrels an early 1-0 lead.

Altoona (8-9) starter Clay Holmes (Win, 1-2) finished his day with a season-best six innings of work while scattering just three hits. He retired 12 of the final 14 batters he faced, including a stretch of 10 in a row from the second to fifth innings as he notched his first career Double-A win.

Flying Squirrels starter Kyle Crick (Loss, 1-2) struck out five, despite scattering five hits and walking five batters.

Brett McKinney (Hold, 1) and Josh Smith (Save, 1) combined for three innings hitless innings, and Smith logged the first Double-A save of his career after throwing a perfect ninth inning.

Erich Weiss and Reese McGuire both recorded two-hit days for the Curve.

Erie comes to town for a three-game series beginning Monday night at 6 p.m. from PNG Field. Curve righty Tyler Eppler (1-1, 3.00) will get the start, countered by Erie right-hander Tommy Collier (1-2, 10.00).

Monday is MEGA Monday presented by the Altoona Mirror, featuring $1 bleacher tickets and food specials. For tickets and more information, visit AltoonaCurve.com, call 877.99.CURVE or stop by the PNG Field box office.
