Charleston RiverDogs News Release

A double by Cesar Diaz on a perfectly executed hit and run broke open a 1-1 tie in the top of the tenth inning, and the Charleston RiverDogs grabbed a 2-1 win over the Crawdads on Sunday evening at L.P. Frans Stadium to take the series.

The game had been tied since the third when Hickory (70-63, 32-31) added their single tally to match Charleston (72-60, 30-33) before Gosuke Katoh would open up the tenth with a leadoff walk. Katoh went on the first sign of the pitch as Diaz smacked a drive to left center that was cut off by center fielder Eric Jenkins who tried to cut down Katoh at the plate, but the second baseman would score all the way from first and a beautifully executed hit and run to give the RiverDogs the 2-1 lead.

Andrew Schwaab came in to work a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his 19th save of the season in his first save opportunity since rejoining the RiverDogs after a month long hiatus in Tampa.

Hobie Harris (2-4, 2.79) picked up the win for Charleston, keeping the game tied with three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. The former Pitt Panther showcased his newfound velocity he had slowly added throughout the season, routinely touching up to 95-96 with his fastball to strike out three Crawdads batters.

RiverDogs starter Christian Morris went six strong innings in a no decision effort, allowing one unearned run in the third that tied the ballgame up. Rangers prospect Ti'Quan Forbes was hit by a pitch to open the inning, advanced to second on a passed ball, and moved to third on a single by Luis Silva before scoring on a wild pitch by Morris that evened the game at one apiece.

The RiverDogs struck first in the opening frame with back-to-back singles to open the contest, a line drive to left by Ricardo Ferreira that extended his hitting streak to a season-high nine games and a bunt by shortstop Hoy Jun Park. Mandy Alvarez flew out to right field to score Ferreira to give Charleston the early lead.

Charleston's offense was shut down by Crawdads pitching following the early score, not collecting another hit until Ferreira bunted his way on in the eighth inning.
