Di Salvo Saves 34 in RiverKings Shootout Win

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings (10-5-0) won Saturday night in dramatic fashion 2-1 with a shootout over the Pensacola Ice Flyers (5-5-4) Saturday night at the Landers Center. Peter Di Salvo's 34 saves and Joe Sova's shootout game winner helped the RiverKings down the Ice Flyers for the first time this regular season.

It took over 44 minutes for the game's first goal as the RiverKings opened the scoring at the 4:14 mark of the third. Robert Lindores broke the scoreless game with a redirect in front of the net from Chris Leone to put the RiverKings ahead 1-0.

Late in the third, the Ice Flyers notched their first tally of the game as John Gustafsson found the back of the net to force overtime.

After a scoreless overtime period, the teams headed to a shootout. The Ice Flyers scored first in the on their third attempt as Maxime St-Cyr beat Peter Di Salvo to put the pressure on the RiverKings with two shooters left. Dillon Fox tied the shootout at one with a shot between the legs of Zenzola.

After Di Salvo stopped Louis Belisle, Joe Sova made his way on to the ice and finished the game off for the RiverKings with a top shelf goal over the blocker side of Matt Zenzola.

Peter Di Salvo (5-1-0) stopped 34 of 35 shots against in the victory. Matt Zenzola (3-2-3) took the loss after stopping 28 of 29 shots against.

The RiverKings next welcome the Huntsville Havoc to the Landers Center for the first time this season Dec. 9 for Gritmas with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Join Grizz, the Grizz Girls and many other members of the Grizzlies team as we will wear ugly Christmas sweater jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game.
