Devils up 2-0 in Series After Big Second Period

ALBANY, NY -- A four-goal second period outburst propelled the Albany Devils to a 5-1 win against the Utica Comets Saturday at Times Union Center in Game 2 of the Calder Cup Division Semifinal.

The Devils, who lead the best-of-five series 2-0, are now 14-0-2-0 all-time against the Comets.

Scott Wedgewood finished with 22 saves, earning his fourth consecutive win.

Jim O'Brien (2g-1a), Reid Boucher (1g-2a) and Damon Severson (3a) led the Devils with three points apiece. Pavel Zacha extended his point streak to four games (2g-3a) with a goal and Ben Thomson scored for the third time in four games. Darren Archibald pulled one back for Utica 27 seconds into the third, but Blandisi converted on a breakaway at 10:31, netting what proved to be the game winner. Jordan Subban scored the game's final goal at 15:41 with a point shot through traffic.

Cole Cassels put the Comets ahead at 9:04 of the first with a wrist shot through traffic. Thomson answered for the Devils at 16:27, scoring from in tight after Severson caused a turnover in Albany's offensive zone.

The Devils built on the momentum in the second, producing three special teams goals in the first 7:54 of the frame to open a 4-1 lead.

O'Brien scored his first of the game on the power play at 4:36 before assisting on a Boucher short-handed tally at 7:15. Zacha cleaned up a rebound 39 seconds later for the tea
