Devils Sign G Mackenzie Blackwood

Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today signed goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood to a three-year entry-level contract. The announcement was made by Devils' Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.

Blackwood, 19, was selected by New Jersey in the second round, 42nd overall, of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Now in his third season with Barrie (OHL), Blackwood leads the league in save-percentage (.932), is second with a 2.36 goals-against average and is tied for fifth with 16 wins in 24 appearances for the Colts. He was named the OHL's Goaltender of the Month for November, going 8-2-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage with one shutout in ten games.

The native of Thunder Bay, Ontario was one of three goaltenders named to Team Canada's roster for the World Junior Championships, which are currently underway in Helsinki, Finland. Last season, Blackwood finished with the fourth-most wins in the OHL, posting a 33-14-2 record with two shutouts, a 3.09 goals-against average, and a .906 save percentage in 51 appearances. Blackwood went 21-4-0 from December 4- February 14 and earned OHL Goaltender of the Month honors for December, going 10-1- 0 with one shutout, a 1.73 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage in 11 appearances. He was also named the OHL's Player of the Week for the period ending January 4 after posting a 5-0-0 record with one shutout, a 1.60 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage during that stretch.

In three seasons with Barrie, Blackwood is 72-36-4 with five shutouts, a 2.90 goals- against average and a .910 save-percentage in 120 regular season games played. He's also appeared in 19 playoff contests, going 10-8 with one shutout, a 2.75 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.

Blackwood participated in his first NHL training camp in September. He did not see any pre-season action and was assigned to Barrie on September 23.
