Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Cory Murphy's one-timer past J.P. Lamouruex at 1:52 of the overtime period gave the Lowell Devils a 3-2 win over the Portland Pirates on Saturday at the Tsongas Center. Michael Swift tallied both of the Devils; goals during regulation and later assisted on the game-winner to end his team's three-game winless streak.
Down 2-1 late in the second period, the Devils would knot the score on the first man-advantage of the game. Swift's shot from the far dot was stopped by Lamoureux before bouncing off a defenseman in front and into the net at 17:18. The second of the night for the Lowell center was his 17th of the season.
The Devils were unable to get the go-ahead marker despite outshooting the Pirates 14-3 in the third, but would end the match on their first opportunity in overtime. Ben Walter took a pass from Swift across the Portland blueline and dropped the puck off to a trailing Murphy, who found the top left corner with a slapshot from the far side of the zone.
Swift put Lowell up 1-0 two minutes into the contest as he cut in between the hashmarks and sent a backhander inside the near post.
Cody McCormick tied the score at 11:04 of the same period when he whacked at a loose puck in slot and sent it past the glove of Mike McKenna.
Portland took its only lead of the game midway through the second on a power play goal credited to Tyler Ennis. His bid from the far circle was knocked down in the Lowell crease and inadvertently pushed across the goal line by Murphy, but the Devils veteran would redeem himself in the extra session.
McKenna gathered his 21st win of the season with 19 saves on 21 shots.
