Albany Devils News Release

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Lowell Devils struck early in each period to defeat the Providence Bruins, 4-1, on Sunday at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in their final game of the regular season. Jason Ryznar lead the offense for Lowell with two goals and an assist, while Doyle fell 41.5 seconds short of a shutout.

The Devils scored in the opening minutes for the second straight night when Ryznar intercepted a pass at the Providence point and broke in alone before throwing a backhand into top shelf that gave his team a 1-0 lead just 1:10 into the first. The unassisted goal was Ryznar's ninth of the year.

Lowell struck again at 2:44 of the second period to make the score 2-0 when Grant Marshall flipped a pass to the near circle of the Bruins' zone and Ivan Khomutov snapped a quick wrister past the glove side of Tuuka Rask. Rask made 14-of-16 saves through two periods as rookie goaltender Adam Courchaine came in to play the final stanza.

Nicklas Bergfors needed only 25 seconds to get the puck past Courchaine, setting up camp on the doorstep for a centering feed from Ryan Murphy that gave the Devils a 3-0 cushion. Petr Vrana also added an assist on Bergfors' 12th of the season.

The only drama remaining in the game would be Doyle's shutout bid, but the Bruins' Nate Thompson spoiled the effort with a rebound put back of Jeff Hoggan's slapshot from the far dot. The Devils' goalie stopped 33-of-34 shots for his 14th win of the season.

Ryznar then finished his three-point night on an empty-netter with 5.8 second left in regulation. Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play.

Full and partial season ticket plans for the Lowell Devils' 2008-09 season are now available. Call (978) 458-PUCK or go to www.lowelldevilshockey.com for more information.
