Devils Comeback Spoiled in SO

ALBANY, NY -- Steve Zalewski's goal with 4:53 remaining in regulation secured a point for the Albany Devils against the Binghamton Senators Sunday at Times Union Center in front of 4,928 fans. In the end the Devils lost, 3-2, in a shootout.

Trailing 2-1 within the final five minutes, Zalewski picked the top, right corner over Senators netminder Marc Cheverie's glove.

After a scoreless overtime period in which the Devils controlled the play, Mike Sislo scored in the opening round of the shootout. Binghamton's Pat Cannone tied the score in the fourth round and Cole Schneider potted the winner in the sixth.

In the first, Corbin McPherson's wrist shot from the left point gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead only 22 seconds into the contest. The goal marked Albany's fastest start of the season. The Senators answered at 8:47 when Schneider jammed home a loose puck from a scramble in front. In the second, Louie Caporusso tipped a shot from the point to double Binghamton's lead at 3:21.

Chris McKelvie registered his second point in as many games with an assist on McPherson's goal and Joe Whitney registered his 27th point with a helper on Zalewski's marker. In goal, Keith Kinkaid stopped 24 shots on 26 attempts.

For Binghamton, Schneider led the way with an assist to compliment his goal and Chris Wideman had a pair of helpers. Between the pipes, Marc Cheverie stopped 35 shots on 37 tries for his first victory of the season.

Game Notes

- Corbin McPherson tallied his second goal of the season. He netted his first career goal on Feb. 5 at Connecticut. The goal was the fastest to start a game for the Devils this season.

- With an assist, Chris McKelvie now has points in the last two games with a goal and a helper.

- The Devils have gone to a shootout a league-high 11 times this year and are 2-9 in those contests.

- Prior to puck drop, New Jersey announced that Jacob Josefson had been returned on loan to Albany. Additionally, Andrei Loktionov was recalled from the AHL Devils.
