Devils Can't Get Around Crunch

Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY - The Albany Devils were poised to hand the Tampa Bay Lightning AHL affiliate their first regular-season, regulation loss since Feb. 17. Albany used two first-period goals to jump out to a 2-1 lead, but the Syracuse Crunch eventually prevailed, 3-2.
Last season, Tampa Bay was associated with the Norfolk Admirals, who set a professional hockey record with 28-consecutive regular-season victories. Their season ended with a Calder Cup championship.
Friday at Times Union Center, Mike Hoeffel and Mattias Tedenby both scored in an attempt to derail the Crunch. However, Syracuse received scoring from Tyler Johnson, J.T. Brown and Mike Angelidis to improve to 2-0-0-1. The loss moves Albany to 0-2-0-0.
Hoeffel opened the scoring 58 seconds into the contest when he fired a low-percentage shot from near the goal line. The puck sailed over the shoulder of Crunch goaltender Dustin Tokarski, off the crossbar and into the net. The assist went to Jacob Josefson.
Johnson evened the score on a tic-tac-toe power-play goal at 7:45 of the same period, but Tedenby responded at 16:44. Tim Sestito led a 2-on-1 rush and outlasted an outstretched Syracuse defender to find Tedenby on the back door for a one-touch goal.
Syracuse answered in the second period: Brown tied the game, 2-2, with a power-play goal at 10:44 and Angelidis registered the game-winning goal at 16:44.
Jeff Frazee, in his first start, made 20 saves on 23 shots. At the other end, Tokarski made 25 stops on 27 tries.
The Devils travel to Worcester Saturday for a 7 pm outing. Fans can follow the action on 104.5 "The Team" ESPN Radio or online at ahllive.com.
