Detroit Re-Signs Coreau for Two Years

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday re-signed goaltender Jared Coreau to a two-year contract.

Coreau, 24, appeared in 47 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins during the 2015-16 season and ranked among the AHL's elite goaltenders with a 2.43 goals against average (T10th), 1,314 saves (5th), 2,741:36 minutes (4th), a 0.922 save percentage (T4th), 29 wins (T4th) and six shutouts (3rd). The 6-foot-6, 220-pound netminder played in three Calder Cup Playoff contests and posted a 2-1 record, a 1.89 GAA and a 0.949 save percentage.

Coreau was named the AHL's Goaltender of the Month for December after compiling a 9-2-0 record, a 1.92 GAA and a 0.938 save percentage. He also recorded an 11-game winning streak from Nov. 18-Dec. 26, during which he contributed to Grand Rapids' franchise-record 15-game winning streak.

In three seasons with the Griffins, the Perth, Ontario, native owns a 45-27-3 regular season record and a 2.44 GAA while also tallying a 2-2 mark and a 2.21 GAA in the postseason. He places among the franchise's all-time regular season leaders with 77 games played (9th), 45 wins (T7th), a 2.44 GAA (T7th), nine shutouts (T4th) and a 0.921 save percentage (T3rd).

Coreau also played parts of two seasons for the ECHL's Toledo Walleye (2013-15), showing a 6-16-6 record and a 3.75 GAA. Prior to turning pro, he played three seasons at Northern Michigan University, where he compiled a 32-31-4 record.

The Griffins will begin the home portion of their 2016-17 season with Opening Night presented by Huntington Bank on Friday, Oct. 14 at Van Andel Arena. Additional home dates confirmed by the American Hockey League include Dec. 31, Jan. 7, Jan. 21, Feb. 4 and Feb. 25.
