Kinston Indians News Release
The K-Tribe won their second straight game as K-Tribe starter Jim Deters led Kinston to a 6-2 win over Frederick on Sunday afternoon. Deters (11-4) picked up his eleventh win of the season, giving up just two hits and an unearned run in seven innings of work. The eleven wins are tied with Ryan Edell for the team lead and the fourth most in the Carolina League. Deters lowered his ERA to 2.11.
Kinston gave him run support in the bottom of the first inning when Jose Constanza started the inning with a single and Josh Rodriguez drove him home with an RBI double. It was the team leading 77th RBI of the year for Rodriguez, the third most in the Carolina League this season. Rodriguez came home on a sacrifice fly by Matt Whitney, putting Kinston up 2-0. Whitney would hit his A ball leading 31st home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth, a solo shot putting Kinston up 3-0. Whitney now has 109 RBI between Low A Lake County and Kinston this year, the third highest total in all of Minor League Baseball. Kinston would break it open in the bottom of the sixth inning, batting around and scoring three runs on RBI from Constanza and Johnny Drennen. Drennen celebrated his 21st birthday by going 1-for-5 and making a great run saving catch against the right field wall in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The K-Tribe returns to Grainger Stadium for the last home game of the regular season on Monday night. Sung-Wei Tseng (6-8, 4.14) gets the call for the K-Tribe, game time 7pm.
