The Syracuse Crunch opened the scoring at the 7:47 mark of the first period while on the power play. Bulldogs goaltender DesLauriers stopped the initial shot from Joakim Lindstrom in the slot, before Ben Simon shot the loose puck into the net during a scramble in front.
At 2:11 of the second period Hamilton was awarded a penalty shot when Crunch defenseman Aaron Johnson covered a loose puck in the crease. Bulldog forward Andrei Kostitsyn was denied as Syracuse goaltender Andrew Penner stopped the attempt with his right pad.
