Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today the club has traded forward Derek Nesbitt to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in exchange for future considerations.

Nesbitt, 30, set a new AHL career-high in goals (26) this season for the Rivermen and also led the team with eight power-play markers. His 21 assists and 47 points are second to only his linemate T.J. Hensick.

He initially joined the Rivermen on Nov. 11, 2010 on a professional tryout contract and erupted with 42 points (17g, 25a) in 55 overall games. He was tied for the team lead in power-play goals with 10 and notched three game-winners. He was signed by Peoria to a standard player contract on Dec. 21, 2010.

He started the 2010-11 season with the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL. In 11 games, he posted 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) and a plus-10 rating. The Egmondville, Ontario, native was named the ECHL Player of the Week for October 17-24 and was named the ECHL Player of the Month for October as he finished October with 13 points (6g-7a) in seven games with the Gladiators. His plus-10 rating also led the ECHL in October to earn the Plus Performer of the Month honor.

In seven seasons of professional hockey, Nesbitt has appeared in 253 career AHL games between the Rockford IceHogs, Manitoba Moose, San Antonio Rampage and Peoria. He has 156 points (66g, 90a) and 44 penalty minutes at the AHL level. In 2009-10, the 6'0, 185-pound winger played in 23 games with the IceHogs (4g, 1a) and 37 games with the Toledo Walleye (11g, 22a). In 211 career ECHL games, he has scored 86 goals and added 154 assists for 240 points between Gwinnett, Idaho and Toledo.

Prior to turning pro, Nesbitt spent four years at Ferris State University where he accumulated 141 points (59g, 82a) in 154 games.
