Delmonico Reaches the Big Leagues

FREDERICK, MD -On Tuesday night, former Frederick Keys infielder, Nicky Delmonico, made his Major League debut for the Chicago White Sox. In the process, he became the 156th former Keys player to advance to baseball's highest level and the fourth to make it in 2017. Earlier this season, Jimmy Yacabonis and Stefan Crichton made their Orioles debuts, while Michael Ohlman reached the MLB with the Blue Jays.
Delmonico, 25, has started in leftfield each of the last two nights. Posting his first hit in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game against Toronto, Delmonico went 1-for-4, while he scored his first Major League run in the fourth inning. In his first two contests, the former O's farmhand is a collective 1-for-7 with a run scored, a walk and two strikeouts.
Prior to having his contract purchased by Chicago, Delmonico was hitting .262/.347/.421 in 99 games with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. Named an International League All-Star, he hit 12 home runs to go with 45 RBIs, 18 doubles, three triples and 55 runs scored. With the Knights Delmonico split time between third base, leftfield and rightfield.
The third organization Delmonico has played for, the former Farragut (TN) High School standout was originally drafted by the Orioles in the sixth round of the 2011 draft. After being named a South Atlantic League all-star in 2012, he advanced to Frederick for the 2013 season. In 61 games he posted a slash line of .243/.350/.469 to go with 13 home runs, 30 RBIs, 12 doubles and 33 runs scored.
Splitting time between third base and first with the Keys, Delmonico was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on July 23 for Francisco Rodriguez. After playing for Milwaukee in 2014, he was signed by the White Sox to a minor league contract in February 2015.
