DeLeon took the Cherokees to a Region IV-5A semifinal appearance, their deepest playoff run in five seasons. Along the way, Tuloso-Midway dispatched Floresville, Sharyland Pioneer, and Brownsville Veterans Memorial before falling to Richmond Foster.
Fashioning freshman and senior core groups, DeLeon piloted T-M to a 29-10 overall record and second-place finish in District 30-5A at 8-2. She earned Caller-Times Coach of the Year honors and placed freshman Jordyn Torre on the newspaper's All-South Texas team as Newcomer of the Year. Freshman Breanna Reyna was a first-team pitcher, senior Brisa Perez a first-team outfielder.
Joe Green, Lolly Arevalo, and Valerie Colunga comprised DeLeon's coaching staff.
De Los Santos repeats as small-school Coach of the Year after guiding SGA to the Class 3A state tournament for the second consecutive time and third since 2013. The Lady Lions, 8-0 champions of District 31-3A, finished 39-3 overall after losing in the finals to Little River Academy. SGA took down Edinburg IDEA Quest, Mathis, Lyford, Hallettsville, Jourdanton, and Brock to reach the championship game.
