Defenseman Nathan Deck Named Starter for the ECHL All-Star Game

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, announced in conjunction with the ECHL that Thunder defenseman Nathan Deck has been named a starter for the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game presented by University of Colorado Health, hosted by the Colorado Eagles.

Deck, 22, is currently skating in the AHL with the Oklahoma City Barons and was loaned to Oklahoma City on a professional tryout agreement on December 3. At the time of his call-up, he led all Thunder defensemen and was tied for fourth among ECHL blueliners with 17 points in 19 games this season.

His +8 rating was tied for second on the team and he has earned seven points on the power play.

The 5-foot-11 and 185 pound blueliner received the Thunder "Unsung Hero" award last season when he notched 26 points and a +10 rating (3rd on the Thunder) in 60 games during his rookie season.

Deck has collected four assists in 12 games with the Barons this season.

F - C.J. Stretch, Ontario (31 gp, 18g, 16a, 34 pts.)

The starting lineup is determined in voting by ECHL coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. The remainder of the ECHL All-Star Team will be announced tomorrow.

The 2013 ECHL All-Star Week, presented by CCM, begins on Tuesday, Jan. 22 with the ECHL All-Star Skills Competition, presented by OtterBox, and continues with the ECHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Both events begin at 7:05 p.m. MT at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo.

More than 50 players from the ECHL All-Star Game have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 39 since 2002 when the lineups began having players who coaches felt were prospects to move up to a higher level.

A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12.
