HERSHEY, Pa. - The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that defenseman Garrett Stafford has been signed to a one-year contract by the Washington Capitals/HERSHEY BEARS for 2012-2013. The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.
Stafford, 32, begins his ninth professional season in 2012-2013. He brings a wealth of experience to the BEARS blue line, having appeared in 610 career AHL games with Cleveland, Worcester, Grand Rapids, Texas, San Antonio, Portland, and Hamilton. In that time, he has totaled 345 points (92 goals, 253 assists).
The 6-1, 207-pound native of Los Angeles, CA put up 28 points (nine goals, 19 assists) in a season split between Portland and Hamilton last year. He was a member of the Texas Stars' Western Conference championship team which the BEARS defeated in 2010 for their second consecutive Calder Cup title.
Stafford totaled two assists in seven NHL contests with Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix.
Prior to turning pro in 2003-04, Stafford played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire (HE), recording 81 points (14 goals, 67 assists).
