Defenseman Doyle Somerby Joins the Lumberjacks

MUSKEGON, Michigan (March 5th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks have announced that Kimball Union Academy standout and New York Islanders prospect Defenseman Doyle Somerby will join the team for the remainder of the season.

Somerby, the Marblehead, Massachusetts native, was the Lumberjacks' sixth-round pick (77th overall) in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft. Somerby also was picked in the fifth-round (125th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders and has a commitment to play for the Boston University Terriers out of the Hockey East Association (HEA) beginning in the 2013-14 season.

"Doyle (Somerby) is a great asset to the team that provides great size and maturity for his age," said Lumberjacks Assistant Coach Ron Gay. "Doyle is excited for the opportunity to showcase his talents as he is soaking everything in and wants to learn how to become better at his position every day."

Prior to arriving in Muskegon, Somerby played three seasons with the Kimball Union Academy Wildcats in Meriden, New Hampshire out of the New England Prep School hockey league (NEDI) that includes putting up 20 points (3 goals and 17 assists) in 66 games played during his first two years with the school. Before joining Kimball Union Academy, Somerby spent his freshman season playing for St. Mary's High School in Lynn, Massachusetts totaling 5 points (2 goals and 3 assists) in 24 games played.

The Lumberjacks will hit the road again this weekend for three games in Nebraska beginning Friday against the Lincoln Stars followed by a game with the Tri-City Storm on Saturday, respectively, at 8:05 pm. Muskegon will conclude the road trip on Sunday against the Omaha Lancers at 6:05 pm. Tickets will be on sale for the next pair of home games on Friday, March 15th against the USNTDP Under-18 Team and Saturday, March 16th against the Youngstown Phantoms for the next two weeks for the low price of $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-12 if they are purchased before the day of the game. The March 15th game against the USNTDP Under-18 Team features Hat Trick School Night along with the return of our "Jacks Win You Win" and "Rock the Arena" promotions. If the Lumberjacks win against the USNTDP Under-18 Team, every fan in attendance will win a $5 Sport Clips gift card. Also, the "Rock the Arena" promotion is presented by Rock 101.7 FM where from 6:15-7:30 pm, Rolling Rock Beer will be sold for only $2 in select concession stand areas. The March 16th game against Youngstown features the second installment of Car Load Night where fans can pile into any size vehicle for the low price of $40.
