Defenseman Adams Joins Wildcatters

September 25, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release

BEAUMONT, TX (September 24, 2007) -Texas Wildcatters Head Coach and V.P. of Hockey Operations Malcolm Cameron announced Monday that John Adams has been signed to a contract for the 2007-08 season. Per team policy, terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Adams, 24, comes to the Wildcatters having split time his first two seasons between the ECHL and AHL. A third-round draft pick (#82 overall) by Buffalo in 2002, Adams spent 42 games with Florida in 2005-06 and 41 with Johnstown last year. He has registered 109 PIM and 33 points (6-27-33) across two ECHL regular seasons. Adams did not register a point in two playoff games with Florida in 2005-06.

Add his ECHL time to four separate stints in the AHL, including 16 games with Springfield last season, and the Wayzata, MN native brings plenty of professional savvy to the Wildcatters roster.

"John's American League experience is very valuable, especially as a defenseman," said Cameron, "He's been well-coached throughout his career and is accustomed to a culture of winning. He's a great addition and we're very happy to have him."

Adams played NCAA hockey at Boston College, joining the Eagles in 2001 following their most recent national championship. Adams registered an impressive plus/minus of +47 and tallied 24 points (6-18-24) while patrolling the blue line for 136 games over four seasons.

Though the Eagles did not repeat as champions during his tenure, Adams did play in the 2004 Frozen Four. Boston College lost 2-1 to Maine in the National Semifinal and the experience is still with Adams today.

"Just incredible, to play on that type of stage in front of 19,000 fans," said Adams, "You learn a lot about yourself, how to keep your emotions in check and play the big games like you play all the rest."

Adams is attending camp this week with the Houston Aeros. While he hopes that 2007-08 will be the season he finally sticks in the AHL, he's glad his ECHL hockey will be played with Texas.

"There's a good program in place here. It's an honor to be part of the Minnesota Wild organization, be it at the AHL level, ECHL level or ideally someday in the NHL."
