Traverse City MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums continue to build their core for the 2016 season, announcing the team has resigned outfielder Jeff DeBlieux. It will be his third season with the Beach Bums.
"Jeff is one of the most dynamic players in the games," said Jason Wuerfel, Director of Baseball Operations. "He is without a doubt one of the fastest players anywhere in professional baseball and that speed translates on both offense and defense. He's exciting to watch play the game."
DeBlieux hit .247 last season in 70 games with 12 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 31 RBI. He was 11th in the Frontier League with 18 stolen bases.
As a rookie in 2014, the Houma, La. native burst onto the scene, hitting. 271 with 18 doubles, five triples, seven homers and 37 RBI while stealing 23 bases.
Prior to joining Traverse City, DeBlieux played two seasons at the University of South Alabama, a Division-I school in the Sun Belt Conference. For the Jaguars he hit .320 with 21 doubles, 12 triples and stole 15 bases in 111 games.
The signing of DeBlieux marks the third time this off-season that the Beach Bums have brought back a player who has been with TC for at least two previous seasons. Jake Rhodes will also be back for his third season with Traverse City while Jose Vargas will return for a sixth year.
The Beach Bums begin defense of their championship Friday May 13th at Southern Illinois. The home opener at Wuerfel Park is Friday May 20th vs. Joliet.
The Traverse City Beach Bums are the 2015 Frontier League Champions and will be playing their 11th season of professional baseball in Northern Michigan starting May 2016. All home games are played at Wuerfel Park, a state of the art ballpark located in Blair Township, MI. The Beach Bums business offices are open from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. Sponsorships, Season Tickets, Group packages, patio tables and suites are all available for the 2016 season.
