Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va. – Isiah Victor lead the charge with 26 points, as the Roanoke Dazzle used a third quarter spurt to down the Asheville Altitude with a season high 126-111 victory, Monday night at the Roanoke Civic Center.

The night began to mirror Saturday’s match-up with both teams trading baskets. Finishing the first quarter with Matt Carroll and Joe Forte jumpers in the last three seconds kept the game close with the Dazzle leading 32-31

Roanoke (14-9) started the second quarter with an 8-2 run in the first two minutes, stretching the lead to nine points (62-53) going into the half.

Utilizing a balanced scoring attack the Dazzle continued to pull away in the third quarter. Behind Cory Alexander’s 7 points Roanoke stretched their lead to 19.

”We took control of the ball and got the ball into places where we needed it,” said Roanoke Head Coach Kent Davison. “We made shots and it was just kind of a methodical, businesslike win.”

The Altitude tried to close the gap in the fourth with Kurt Penney’s 10 points in the field, but it was too late, as Isiah Victor sealed the deal with 11 of his own.

Roanoke shot a blistering 90.9% from the free throw line, unlike Saturday’s game compromising 62.2%.

With the return of James Thomas, the NBDL’s leading rebounder, the Dazzle where able to move up to just a half game out of first place in the NBDL. Six Dazzle players posted double digit scoring with Matt Carroll and James Thomas contributing 18, Sung-Yoon Bang had an exciting 17, Terrence Shannon poured in 12 and Cory Alexander notched 11.

“That’s a pretty good team,” said Altitude Head Coach Joey Meyers. “You put James Thomas in there and very seldom you’re going to beat them even at full strength.”

Kirk Penney led the Altitude with 27 points, while Lenny Stokes followed with 26 of his own. Tim Bowers scored 17, Joe Forte put-up 14 and big man Tony Kitchings had another 12.

Roanoke faces Asheville again on the road, Thursday, February 3 at the Asheville Civic Center, game time 7 p.m. For more information log on to www.nbdl.com.
