Dazzle to Host Fifth Annual Draft Party This Thursday

Roanoke, Va., October 31 - The Roanoke Dazzle will take part in the 2005 edition of the NBA Development League Draft this Thursday, November 3rd at 7:00 p.m. In conjunction with the draft, the Dazzle will host their Fifth Annual Season Ticket Holder Draft Party at the Wildwood Smokehouse, located at 2041 Electric Rd. in Roanoke, starting at 6:30 p.m. All Season Ticket Holders are invited to attend and get a rare chance to be a part of the Roanoke Dazzle "War Room" and see the draft selection process first hand.

The 10-round draft will be conducted via conference call from the Wildwood Smokehouse, and those in attendance will have the opportunity to listen in on Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison and Assistant Coach Chucky Brown as they select this year's team. "Thursday is the first important day for our basketball team," said Davison. "This is the time when the majority of our team will take shape, so Coach Brown and I have our work cut out for us."

Party attendees will also be able to hear team-by-team selections as well as receive instant analysis detailing all of the Dazzle's 2005 picks. Special Guests in attendance will be returning Dazzle Players Isiah Victor, Seth Doliboa and Kevin Owens. The NBA D-League's fifth annual draft selection process will operate similar to previous years. Each team will have one pick in all 10 rounds. Teams will have 3 minutes to make their selection. If a team fails to make a selection in the allotted time, it will forfeit that selection and be given an additional selection at the end of the draft. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to a NBA D-League Standard Player Contract will be eligible to be drafted. The draft order is based upon how each team finished last season. The Dazzle, who finished 2004-05 in fourth place with an overall record of 26-22, will have the fifth overall selection.

4. Arkansas RimRockers
5. Roanoke Dazzle
6. Albuquerque Thunderbirds
7. Tulsa 66ers
8. Austin Toros

Past Dazzle first round picks include former Charlotte Bobcat Cory Alexander (2004), Josh Asselin (2003), current Seattle Sonic Mikki Moore (2002) and Artie Griffin (2001)

The NBA Development League tips off its fifth season on November 18, 2005. The league includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), , Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-four (34) players have been called up to the NBA on 50 separate occasions. Ten (10) former D-League coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
