Dazzle players garner league honors

Roanoke, Va., March 30 - The Roanoke Dazzle was the only team to have two of its players honored as First Team All-D-League selections and had their second consecutive player earn Rookie of the Year honors.

Guards Will Bynum and Anthony Grundy both earned first-team honors. Both players were recently Gatorade NBA Call-Ups. Bynum has signed a second 10-day contract with the Golden State Warriors and Grundy signed with the Atlanta Hawks on a 10-day contract. During their time in the D-League, Bynum and Grundy were ranked first and second respectively in scoring. In addition, Grundy became the first player in NBA Development League history to score over 1000 points in one season. For the year, Grundy averaged 23.0 points per game and led the D-League in steals, three-pointers made and minutes played.

Forward Isiah Victor, who scored a Dazzle team record 46 points in a win over Florida on March 25, was named to the second team. Victor currently leads the D-League in rebounding and ranks third in scoring.

Bynum also received the D-League Rookie of the Year award. While with Roanoke, Bynum averaged a league best 24.0 points per game along with 6.7 assists. Bynum is the second straight winner of Rookie of the Year joining last year's winner, James Thomas.

The Dazzle plays their final two regular season home games at the Roanoke Civic Center on Saturday, April 1st and Sunday, April 2nd when the Tulsa 66ers come to town. The Dazzle currently reside in second place in the D-League standings and are in line to host a playoff game. The top two teams in the standings earning a home playoff game and the top four overall earn a playoff berth.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.). The Bakersfield Jam (Calif.) will compete in the league beginning with the 2006-07 season.

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Forty-four (44) players have been called up to the NBA on 65 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
