Dazzle Hold Open Tryouts this Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday's Session Open to the Public

Roanoke, Va., October 6 - The Roanoke Dazzle will be holding open tryouts this Saturday and Sunday, October 8 & 9 at Glenvar High School in Salem, VA. Tryouts are open to the first 100 applicants from around the region to show off their talents and vie for a spot on the training camp roster with the NBA Development League's Roanoke Dazzle, affiliate of the NBA's New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers and the Washington Wizards.

Registration for tryouts will be $150 for those who register the day tryouts start. Applications and more information can be found on the Dazzle's website at www.roanokedazzle.com. Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison and Assistant Coach Chucky Brown will run tryouts over the two day period. Cuts will be made at the end of the first day, and only invited participants will return on the second day. Candidates will then be notified if they have been invited to participate in the Dazzle's 2005-06 training camp. Sunday's tryout session is free and open to the public, to come and view this first step in building the 2005-06 Dazzle roster.

Tryouts will begin promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 8 with doors opening for registration at 8 a.m. The day will consist of skills stations, shoot around and games ending at approximately 8 p.m. Tryouts will start again, for those who have been invited back, at 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 9, ending at approximately 4 p.m.; this will be the only day tryouts are open to the public. Last year the Dazzle invited open tryout participant, Colorado University guard James Wright, to the 2004-05 training camp.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-four (34) players have been called up to the NBA on 50 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 29 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
