Charleston Lowgators News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. (December 11) Reggie Elliott hit a three-point field goal with under one second remaining to lift the Roanoke Dazzle over the Charleston Lowgators 88-85 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Thursday night.

With 14.9 seconds left and the game tied at 85, Marque Perry took an inbound pass coming out of a time out and dribbled the clock down to three. After penetrating into the lane, he hit Elliot in the right corner for a wide-open shot against a collapsing Lowgators defense.

“Both teams played well,” Dazzle head coach Kent Davison said. “Both teams have good players. The bottom line is you have to make shots to win and it just so happens we hit the last shot. There is never a night off in this league.”

Roanoke controlled the contest for much of the night, relinquishing their lead briefly in the second period and for about three minutes in the fourth quarter. The Lowgators did grab a five-point advantage with six minutes left after a Tierre Brown three-pointer. However, Perry scored five of his seven fourth quarter points after two Charleston turnovers to tie the game at 81.

Charleston head coach Doug Marty said, “We battled and showed heart but we did not play good enough basketball tonight. We have to execute on both ends of the floor and we didn’t do that consistently tonight.”

The home team had a chance to tie the game with .8 seconds left, but Jason Miskiri’s buzzer beater fell well short.

Marque Perry and Mikki Moore, the league’s leading scorer, had 16 points each to lead Roanoke. The Lowgators Rolan Roberts scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, while Tierre Brown chipped in with 17.

The win snapped a two game losing streak for Roanoke. Charleston’s three game win streak is over. The Dazzle will Host Columbus on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Lowgators will play Fayetteville at 6 p.m. at home on Saturday.

Roanoke hosts Fayetteville on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Charleston travels to Fayetteville on Saturday night to face the Patriots at 7:30 p.m.
