GREENVILLE, S.C., April 9 – The Atlanta Hawks have signed Roanoke Dazzle forward James Thomas for the remainder of the NBA season, making him the 11th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2004-05 National Basketball Development League season.
A rookie from the University of Texas (Â’04), Thomas represents the 50th overall GATORADE Call-Up spread over 34 players since the NBDL began play in November 2001. This is ThomasÂ’ third call-up while playing in the NBAÂ’s Development League. He signed a pair of 10-day contracts with the Portland Trail Blazers in January 2005 and signed another 10-day with the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 22.
In 36 games (35 starts) for the Dazzle this season, Thomas averaged 35.4 minutes, 12.4 points and 13.3 rebounds. His rebounding totals led the NBAÂ’s Development League. The NBDL Rookie of the Year, Thomas is the only player in the D-League to average a double-double.
In nine NBA games (two starts) he averaged 2.7 points and 3.9 rebounds. As a member of the Trail Blazers, he recorded a career-high 15 rebounds against the Cavaliers on January 19.
