Dazzle and Nextel Partner to Present "Hoops for Hurricane Relief Preseason Game"

Roanoke, Va., November 7 - The Roanoke Dazzle and Nextel are pleased to announce the "Nextel Hoops for Hurricane Relief Preseason Game" on Wednesday, November 16 when the Dazzle host the Fayetteville Patriots at the Roanoke Civic Center, tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. Proceeds, from ticket sales, to the "Nextel Hoops for Hurricane Relief Preseason Game" will benefit the American Red Cross and their continuing relief efforts after Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.

"With recovery efforts still under way, we feel the work in the Gulf Region is far from done. All of us here at the Dazzle, along with our partners at Nextel, felt strongly that we needed to reach out to those in need and help out," said Dazzle President Dennis Robarge.

Fifty percent of all ticket proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross. All adult tickets for the "Nextel Hoops for Hurricane Relief Preseason Game" are $10 and are good for all seats. Children age 12 and under can attend the game for just $7.50. Adults can save an additional $3 off the price of admission by donating a canned food item for "Nextel's Cans for a Cause" at participating Nextel locations.

"Nextel's Cans for a Cause" is the company's 5th annual holiday food drive and is hoping to collect more than 500 pounds of canned food for this holiday season. Donations needed include canned soup, peanut butter, baby food, baby formula and packaged food that requires minimal additional ingredients. Fans can stop by any participating Nextel Dealer location and drop off their non-perishable food item and receive their $3 off coupon.

The "Nextel Hoops for Hurricane Relief Preseason Game" will be the first chance for fans to come out and see the 2005-06 Roanoke Dazzle. This season the Dazzle feature former ACC standouts Will Bynum and Anthony Grundy along with returning stars Sung-Yoon Bang and Isiah Victor. The NBA Development League tips off its fifth season on November 18, 2005. The league includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), , Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-four (34) players have been called up to the NBA on 50 separate occasions. Ten (10) former D-League coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
