BOMBERS NOTES

GIANT KILLERS: On Friday night the Bombers handed the first place Wheeling Nailers their first loss of the season in regulation, beating them 6-3 on the road. The Nailers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period, but the Bombers would answer back throughout the game to take home a decisive victory. Nino Musitelli got things going in the first, then Les Reaney and Dominic D'Amour tied the score after two. In the final frame Justin Bowers scored the go-ahead goal, and Jarret Lukin netted a pair of insurance goals in the closing minutes. Goalie Paul Drew, making his second career start, improved to 2-0-0 after making 24 saves on 27 shots.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME: Saturday night the Bombers faced off against the division leading Johnstown Chiefs at the historic Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio, but could not come away victorious as the Chiefs won 4-1. The Bombers fell behind 2-0 in the first period and were unable to recover, tallying a goal from Jarret Lukin (assists from Dan Riedel and Justin Bowers). The Bombers went 1 of 9 on the power play and 3 of 5 on the penalty kill. Tyler Plante, in his first start for Dayton, stopped 24 of 27 shots that came his way.

REDEMPTION: The Bombers took down the first place Chiefs on Sunday 3-1 behind rookie goaltender Paul Drew. Drew stopped 22 of 23 shots to earn his third consecutive win and improve to 3-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and .904 save percentage this month. Les Reaney, Danny LaPointe and Justin Bowers all netted goals for the Bombers in the win. Dayton kept Johnstown scoreless on the power play, killing all four opportunities they had.

SHORT END OF THE STICK: The Bombers scored their first short handed goal of the season on Sunday when Danny LaPointe took a feed from captain Greg Labenski, scoring the eventual game winner. It was LaPointe's first goal of the season.

THE MORE THE MERRIER: Seven different Bombers players recorded at least two points in Friday night's game against Wheeling. Jarret Lukin was the only 2-goal scorer of the night, and Nino Musitelli and Justin Bowers each had a goal and an assist. Jamie Dowhayko, Dan Riedel and Mike McLean all had two helpers each. New Bomber Les Reaney was the only 3-point taker of the night, tallying a goal and a pair of assists.

GOALIE MOVEMENT: The NHL's Florida Panthers recalled goalie David Shantz and reassigned him to the AHL's Rochester Americans on Tuesday. Shantz was 4-2-0-1 with the Bombers with a 2.35 GAA and .914 save percentage. The Panthers also reassigned goaltender Tyler Plante to the Bombers, then recalled him to Florida in a back up role on Wednesday in their game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Plante was reassigned back to Dayton on Friday.

WELCOME TO TOWN: Forward Les Reaney was reassigned to the Bombers by the NHL's Edmonton Oilers this week. Reaney immediately made his presence known as he recorded a three-point night against the Wheeling Nailers on Friday and a goal on Sunday against Johnstown.

KEEP ON KEEPING ON: Rookie forward Justin Bowers is on an eight-game point streak, recording four goals and nine assists since November 1. His streak is currently tied for second longest in the league. Bowers is the team leader in points (15) and assists (10). He ranks 14th overall in the league and 4th amongst rookies in scoring.

LENDING A HELPING HAND: Dan Riedel is on a five-game assist streak, dating back to November 8. Riedel has the second longest active assist streak in the ECHL and has recorded six helpers in the time frame.

LUKIN ON A ROLL: Jarret Lukin has recorded a point in each of the last five games the Bombers have played. He's tallied four goals and two assists in the span.

ROAD TRIPPIN': The Bombers improved their road record to 6-1-0 and are outscoring opponents 25-16 as the visiting team. Dayton heads on a five-game road trip this week. They are on a four-game road winning streak, the longest in the league.

LAST DITCH EFFORT: In the third period the Bombers are outscoring opponents 17-8 this season. On Friday night the Bombers netted a trio of goals in the final frame, including the team's first empty netter of the year. They also improved to 5-0-0 when tied after two periods.

HOBART UNDER WAY: Saturday marked the first of six games that the Bombers will play at Troy, Ohio's historic Hobart Arena. BRUINS HONORED: The Bombers are paying tribute to the IHL's Troy Bruins at each of their six games at Hobart Arena by wearing specialty throwback jerseys. Each jersey has a Miami County non-profit as a partner and when the jerseys are auctioned off in March, the proceeds will be split between the respective organization and the Dayton Bombers Foundation.

HITTING THE AIRWAVES: The Bombers will broadcast their first games of the season this weekend on WONE 980AM as they take on the Gwinnett Gladiators on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. and the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
