Day of Reckling

August 21, 2010 - Texas League (TL1)
Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Trevor Reckling pitched his first nine-inning complete game as a professional and enjoyed 15-hit support as Arkansas beat Corpus Christi 8-3 Saturday at Whataburger Field before 6,130.

The Travelers have won eight of their last 12 and stand 51-73 overall, 25-29 in Texas League second-half play. The Hooks are 57-67 and 21-33.

Reckling (2-4) won for the first time since July 5. He permitted seven hits, two earned runs and three walks while striking out five. Seventy of his 112 pitches were strikes.

Corpus Christi used a formula with a number of variables while taking a 3-0 third-inning lead. David Cook singled home Jimmy VanOstrand and Wladimir Sutil. VanOstrand drew a lead-off walk and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Sutil singled and stole second. Cook, who raced to third when first baseman Abel Nieves failed to catch a pick-off attempt, eventually scored on a squeeze play with Albert Cartwright handling the bat.

Arkansas grabbed two runs back in the fourth. Inning-beginning consecutive singles by Alexi Amarista, Charlton Jimerson and Jeremy Moore and Cook's two-base fielding error in right field added up to a one-run Hooks lead.

The Travelers caught up the next inning when Andrew Romine drove Polin Trinidad's first pitch over the wall in left for his third round-tripper.

They took a 7-3 lead in the sixth. Moore legged out a lead-off triple - his sixth of the month - and was awarded home when second baseman Cartwright's relay throw found the Hooks dugout. Romine's two-out double to left-center tallied Roberto Lopez, who'd reached on a walk. Nieves' redemption came in the form of a sharp two-out, two-run single to right field.

Trinidad (0-2) failed to survive the sixth. He yielded nine hits, six earned runs, two walks and struck out five.

In the seventh, Arkansas extended its lead to 8-3 against Evan Englebrook. Ricky Alvarez' hit, the last of four straight singles, scored Lopez. The Travelers left the bases loaded.

Amarista finished with four singles, Moore two singles and the triple. Cook's two singles led Corpus Christi.

Erick Abreu (1-4) pitches for Corpus Christi Sunday at 6:05 against Tyler Chatwood (4-4). The first 1,500 kids 12-&-under receive a Hooks lunch box from Mrs Baird's.
