BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - As the Bloomington Thunder make their push toward the post season, defenseman Jeremy Davies (Northeastern University) continues to put together and impressive season from the blue line. Winning his second consecutive United States Hockey League CCM Defenseman of the Week honor and his third of the season, Davies has found himself on the scoresheet ten times over the last five games. It was the second weekend in a row that the defenseman earned five assists as he has turned on a league leading five game streak of helpers.

Davies, 19, has helped the Thunder to an impressive streak of wins as the team clinched their first playoff berth in team history Friday night. Since then, they have moved into second place in the Eastern Conference with three games remaining.

"The team has been playing extremely well together and we're all buying into the system," said the Thunder defenseman. "We had one goal in mind at the beginning of the season and that was to make playoffs. Now that we've done that, we are focused on finishing the season and carrying the momentum into a post season run.

"I want every guy on our team to have a college commitment, that's what every player should want for his teammates," Davies continued. "At the end of the day I also want us to have a good playoff run and we want a championship here."

This season the Thunder have taken seven weekly honors from the USHL. Goaltenders Logan Halladay (Merrimack College), Hayden Lavigne (University of Michigan), and Logan Lambdin (Michigan State University) have also earned wins for the Thunder as players of the week this season. Lavigne is the other player with the Thunder to win the honor twice this year.

"Winning defenseman of the week means a lot to me," said Davies. "It's a huge honor to be recognized because there are a lot of really great players in the league. Our team is playing really well, scoring a lot of goals, and I've just been feeding off of that."

The Montreal, QC native has also tied a Thunder team record for weekly honors in a season. Defenseman and former Thunder assistant captain Vince Pedrie (Penn State University) won CCM Defenseman of the Week on three separate occasions during their inaugural season of 2014-15. Pedrie also won the honor during consecutive weeks from November 26 through December 6 of 2014.

Davies has put together a season to remember in Bloomington. He leads the team with 48 points (13g, 35a) and continues to lead all defenseman in the league. As one of the front-runners for Defenseman of the Year, the 5-foot-11 second year player has a seven point lead for the defensive scoring crown. Davies is the top assist man of all defensemen this season, leads the USHL in power play assists with 24, and is among the top 15 point producers in the league.

"A lot of my points have come from keeping my game simple. Coach has been working with me and the team on that this season," said Davies. "Our D-core has been playing really well lately, getting the puck up to helping create scoring chances and the forwards have been scoring."

The dominance is nothing new for the Huskies' prospect. Since the calendar changed to 2016, only one player has collected more points in the USHL. Davies has grabbed 36 points (8g, 28a) over 30 games. Only the USHL's leading scorer Rem Pitlick (University of Minnesota) has taken in more with an insane 48 points (25g, 23a) in 29 games.

Before his time in the USHL, Davies was a member of the Lac Saint Louis Lions of the Quebec Midget AAA (QMAAA). Over his three year career with the Lions, Davies logged over 135 games in the regular and post season. Through those games, Jeremy had 98 points and earned himself recognition as a Second Team All-Star selection during his final season of 2013-14.

The Waterloo Black Hawks drafted Davies in the 13th round of the Phase II process and began the season with the Hawks. After playing in 11 games with Waterloo, Davies came to the Thunder in exchange for Ethan Spaxman (Merrimack College) and earned his keep from there. He was the top scoring defenseman for the Thunder at the end of the 2014-15 season and is the program's all-time leader with 68 points (16g, 52a) in 100 games.

The Thunder will play their final three games beginning with the Chicago Steel on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. from the Fox Valley Ice Arena. Bloomington has won 11 of their last 12 games down the stretch.
