David Clarkson Is Riding To Fight Cancer

June 1, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Kitchener Rangers News Release

Former Kitchener Ranger and current NHL'er David Clarkson will join cancer survivor and seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong in the 2010 Ride with Lance.

On August 28th, up to 50 cyclists will take part in the 2010 Ride with Lance (www.ridewithlance.org) a cycling fundraising event benefitting Kitchener-Waterloo's Grand River Hospital.

David will ride approximately 120 km with Lance on the scenic roads surrounding the Kitchener Waterloo Region.

In August of 2008 Dave teamed up with the Kitchener Rangers to launch a program called Clarky's Kids.

Since that time Clarky's Kids has provided children from Grand River Hospital's POGO (Paediatric Oncology Group of Ontario) Satellite Centre the opportunity to experience the excitement of a Kitchener Rangers game and visit with players and coaches in and out of the hospital. As well, this program has continued to raise funds that aid in the support of local families and siblings dealing with a child that has cancer.

David will be riding for Clarky's Kids and the many people that are faced with battling cancer in our region.

Clarky's Kids is looking to raise $20,000 in donations to participate in the Ride with Lance. Money raised will support cancer care and research at Grand River Hospital and POGO (Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario).
