Dave Eminian to Join Rivermen Hall of Fame

Dave Eminian, currently in his 28th season as the Peoria Rivermen beat writer for the Peoria Journal Star, will become the 36th member of the Rivermen Hockey Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 6. He will be the first media member inducted into the Hall of Fame and the sixth member of the Builders Wing.

The ceremony will take place, on the ice, during the first intermission of the Rivermen game against Rockford. . He will join Tyler Rennette in this year's class who will be inducted on March 30.

Eminian, 52, has covered more than 2,000 Rivermen games in the International Hockey League (IHL), East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and American Hockey League (AHL). He has documented two Turner Cup championships (1984-85, 1990-91), a Kelly Cup championship (1999-2000) and hundreds of players that have come through Peoria on their way to the National Hockey League.

After the 2011-12 season, the AHL honored Eminian with the James H. Ellery Memorial Award, presented annually by the league in recognition of outstanding media coverage of the AHL. He was also the first-ever recipient of the ECHL's Outstanding Media Award following the 2002-03 season and has won Associated Press awards and Illinois Press Association honors for investigative reporting and editorial excellence, including an award-winning series in 1988-89 that pushed the struggling team into a successful private ownership.

He was selected by The Hockey News to serve as its IHL reporter, and later a columnist, for five seasons.

Aside from his excellence in writing, the Brecksville, Ohio native has expanded his reach well beyond the newspaper world. He maintains one of the most viewed blogs on the Peoria Journal Star web site. He launched his own Twitter account (@icetimecleve) in November of 2011 and now has over 1,300 followers where he interacts with fans on a daily basis. He writes and designs a preseason section of the newspaper "Ice Time" that often features more than a dozen of his original articles. He has hosted radio talk shows as well as web-based video shows all centered around the Rivermen team.

He serves as the team's unofficial historian and was a founding member of the team's Hall of Fame committee (although he did not vote on his own induction).

There are currently 34 members of the Rivermen Hall of Fame, comprised of two wings. There are 24 players and five coaches along with five members of the Builders Wing. This will be the first time in five seasons that two members are inducted into the same class.

The Builders Wing which Eminian will join consists of Ralph Rashid (2004), Bud Gingher (2002), Bruce Saurs (1999), Mark Olson (1993), and Pete BardezBanian (1992).
