Dash Use Beck to Halt Mudcats' Streak

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Chris Beck hurled six scoreless innings and the Winston-Salem Dash snapped the Carolina Mudcats' six-game winning streak with a 5-1 triumph on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash (16-19, 54-51) avoid their first ever sweep at home with the win.

The Mudcats fall to 19-15 in the second half and 41-63 overall.

Beck (10-8) becomes the first pitcher to 10 wins in the Carolina League this year. The right-hander scattered four hits, walked two and struck out four.

Owen Dew (3-6) was left with the loss in a spot start, his first since 2010. The right-hander allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits over three innings. He struck out three.

Winston-Salem plated four runs off Dew in the fourth inning. Rangel Ravelo singled and moved to second when Jeremy Farrell was hit by a pitch. Josh Richmond singled in Ravelo for a 1-0 lead and Grant Buckner followed with another RBI-hit.

Micah Johnson beat out an infield single for an RBI to keep the momentum going and later scored on a passed ball for a 4-0 Dash edge.

Josh Richmond homered off Benny Suarez in the sixth for the final Dash run.

Jerrud Sabourin broke up the shutout bid in the ninth on a two-out single to center that scored Paddy Matera from second base.

The Mudcats begin a three-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium on Sunday. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m..
