Winston-Salem Dash News Release

LYNCHBURG, Va. (August 13, 2013) - For just the second time all season, the Winston-Salem Dash suffered a sweep, falling 6-4 to the Lynchburg Hillcats Wednesday night at Lynchburg City Stadium.

The sweep is just the second time Winston-Salem (22-28, 60-60) has been swept over its last 94 series. This also marks the first time the Dash have fallen to the break-even mark overall since May 30.

With two on and two out in the first, the Dash took advantage of an error by Lynchburg starter A.J. Holland. The righty made an errant throw to first on a pickoff attempt, allowing Joey DeMichele to scamper home for the contest's first run.

The Hillcats (21-26, 57-59) came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. Matt Lipka drew a walk from Dash starter Braulio Ortiz (0-2) and stole second before coming around on a two-out knock by David Rohm.

Lynchburg then took the lead for the first time in the second. Trent Moses tripled to the wall in right to score a run. He later came around on an RBI single by Daniel Castro.

The Hillcats' lead did not last long. The Dash pushed two across in the third thanks to a run-producing single by Mark Haddow and a wild pitch to tie the game. Chris Curley then picked up his league-leading 85th RBI with a sacrifice fly to give Winston a one-run lead in the fourth.

The Hillcats wrestled the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth. Ortiz uncorked two wild pitches, giving Lynchburg a 5-4 lead after four.

The pitching took over on both sides after that with the relief duo of Wilson Rivera (6-0) and Chasen Shreve tossing a total of five scoreless frames for the Hillcats.

John Cornely took over for the ninth, and the righty retired the Dash in order to record his fifth save of the season.

Terance Marin tossed two perfect innings of relief for Winston-Salem before the Hillcats added an unearned insurance run against Dash debutant J.B. Wendelken, a righty acquired in the Jake Peavy deal, in the eighth.

The Dash return home Wednesday as they begin a three-game set against the Salem Red Sox. Winston-Salem will send Mike Recchia (0-0, 7.20 ERA) to the mound for his second career High-A start, while Salem will counter with fellow righty Mike Augliera (8-6, 4.16 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7, and the Pregame Dash begins at 6:45 on wsdash.com/broadcast.

The Dash's upcoming homestand features the Dash's final All-You-Can-Eat Night on Thursday, August 15, and fireworks after the game on Friday, August 16. For tickets, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
