Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem Dash fell 2-1 to the Salem Red Sox on Friday night, which sent the club to its first home sweep in the four-year history of BB&T Ballpark.

The Dash (22-31, 60-63) had played in 81 regular season series before this one at BB&T Ballpark and had won at least one game in all of them. Winston-Salem has also dropped six in a row for the first time since April 25-30 of 2007, which was when the franchise was known as the Warthogs. The Dash have also lost five consecutive contests for the first time in the Dash era (2009-present)

For the second consecutive night, the starting pitching was strong on both sides. With the game tied 1-1 entering the eighth inning, Max Peterson (1-5) surrendered a one-out double to Stefan Welch. After a walk to Blake Swihart, Winston-Salem turned to righty J.B. Wendelken, who surrendered the go-ahead single with two outs to David Chester.

That eighth inning tally proved to be all Salem (29-24, 62-61) needed. Madison Younginer (2-0) and Nate Striz took care of the Dash over the final two frames to finish off the sweep for the Red Sox, the first by a visiting team in the history of BB&T Ballpark.

With two outs in the second, Salem put together back-to-back hits against Dash starter Bryan Blough to score the game's first run. Mookie Betts singled ahead of a run-producing double from Chester to give the Red Sox the early edge.

Winston-Salem tied it up with an unearned run against Red Sox starter William Cuevas. Josh Richmond picked up a single and stole second before an error moved him along to third. Joe De Pinto brought him in with a sacrifice fly for De Pinto's 14th RBI of the campaign.

The Dash had a great opportunity to break the 1-1 deadlock in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with nobody out. However, Younginer worked his way out of the jam with a fielder's choice grounder and a double play to keep the contest all square.

Blough was strong for Winston, giving up just one run in seven innings while striking out five to collect his team-leading 13th quality start of the year. Cuevas pitched well on the other side, surrendering just the one unearned run in his six frames of work.

The Dash will hit the road for a seven-game trip that begins Saturday night at Harry Grove Stadium against the Frederick Keys. Winston-Salem will send right-hander Myles Jaye (7-6, 4.31 ERA) to the bump, while Frederick will counter with lefty Trent Howard (3-0, 1.69 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6, and the Pregame Dash begins at 5:45 on wsdash.com/broadcast.

The Dash's final homestand begins Saturday, August 24, with the final Burger King Value Pack Night of the season. For tickets or to order your Burger King Value Pack package, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
