Dash Snap Skid with Wire-To-Wire Win at Potomac

Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Mason Robbins and Michael Suiter clocked home runs, and Jordan Stephens worked five strong innings in Winston-Salem's 4-1 victory at Potomac on Sunday afternoon. Thus, the Dash's five-game losing streak, tied for the club's longest of 2016, is no more.

All four Dash runs came around in the first three innings against Potomac (26-21) starter Boone Whiting (5-2). Hitting in the three-hole for the first time this year, Robbins leveled a solo shot to right in the first to give the Dash their first lead of the series.

Winston-Salem (18-33) added two more in the second. After a Marcus Davis leadoff single, Ryan Leonards delivered an RBI triple. In his first career High-A at-bat, Daniel Gonzalez followed with a single that chased Leonards home and propelled the Dash to a 3-0 advantage.

Suiter capped the Dash's early offensive barrage with a mammoth leadoff homer beyond the Pfitzner Stadium videoboard. In his first three games back in the Dash purple, Suiter has launched a pair of home runs after going deep just once in 41 contests with the Dash in 2015.

Four Winston-Salem hurlers took advantage of this three-inning surge. Stephens (1-6) permitted just one run on two hits in his five innings of work. He surrendered an Andrew Stevenson RBI double in the third but stranded two in scoring position. As a result, Stephens earned his first win as a Minor Leaguer in his 21st appearance and 11th start.

Out of the bullpen, reigning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week Manny Martinez tossed a perfect sixth before Jacob Morris stranded the bases loaded in the seventh. Connor Walsh stranded three over the final two frames for his team-leading third save.

Whiting and Justin Thomas combined to hold the Dash hitless from Suiter's leadoff homer in the third through the end of the contest. At one point, the duo retired 17 straight Winston-Salem hitters.

The Dash avoided their first skid of six or more games since a seven-game slump from August 21-27, 2014. Winston-Salem moves to 13-14 on the road and 3-4 against the P-Nats this season.

Winston-Salem eyes a series split in Monday's 7:05 p.m. finale from Pfitzner Stadium. Spencer Adams (4-3, 4.11 ERA), the third-best prospect in the White Sox system per MLB Pipeline, takes to the hill for the Dash against fellow righty Luis Reyes (3-3, 3.50 ERA). The game can be heard live on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn Radio App, with pregame coverage starting at 6:50 p.m.

#YourHomeTeam returns to BB&T Ballpark on Wednesday, June 1, for a seven-game homestand against the Carolina Mudcats (Atlanta Braves) and Wilmington Blue Rocks (Kansas City Royals). The fun includes a postgame fireworks show, presented by AT&T, on Friday, June 3, and an All-You-Can-Eat for Free Night on Tuesday, June 7. Call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com for tickets.
