Dash Drop Matinee Despite Second Cycle in Five Days

Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Dash outfielder Mason Robbins hit for Winston-Salem's second cycle in the last five games, but a 10-run fifth inning allowed Lynchburg to cruise past the Dash 12-6 on Wednesday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark.

Robbins completed the impressive feat with a triple in the bottom of the eighth. All four of Robbins' hits came in even-numbered innings, with a double in the second, three-run homer in the fourth and single in the sixth setting up his eighth-inning magic. The Mississippi native is now 12-for-30 at BB&T Ballpark this season.

He joins Gerson Montilla, who accomplished the achievement last Friday at Salem, as the only players in the Dash era (2009-present) to hit for the cycle. Before this past Friday, Winston-Salem's most recent cycle came in May of 2008, the final year of the Warthogs era.

The Dash (7-13) led 4-1 going into the fifth, but everything went downhill from there for Winston-Salem. After Lynchburg (16-4) loaded the bases with no outs, center fielder Greg Allen and shortstop Yu-Cheng Chang stroked back-to-back two-run doubles against Dash starter Blair Walters (1-1) to put the Hillcats up 5-4.

After Walters walked Anthony Santander, righty Manny Martinez entered out of the bullpen. Walters finished the day throwing four innings, while allowing six hits and seven earned runs.

Martinez did not fair much better, though. Bobby Bradley, the first batter he faced, drilled a three-run bomb to right to make it 8-4. Ivan Castillo added a three-run home run of his own in the inning to give Lynchburg a commanding 11-4 edge. It was the first time the Dash allowed 10 runs in a frame since July 25, 2010, against Potomac.

From there, only three more runs came around throughout the game. After a run in the bottom of the fifth for Winston-Salem, Lynchburg got it back in the sixth before Robbins' cycle-clinching triple led to a run in the home half of the eighth.

For the second consecutive contest, the Dash scored the game's first run on a solo shot. Nick Basto crushed his second dinger of the season off Lynchburg starter Sean Brady (2-1) in the second inning to put Winston-Salem up 1-0. That gave him a Minor League-leading 31 hits on the season, and he added his 32nd with a double in the ninth.

Lynchburg struck back in the next half inning. Hillcats catcher Sicnarf Loopstok started off the third with a triple. Ivan Castillo followed with an RBI groundout to tie the game at one apiece.

The Dash close out their three-game homestand at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday at 7 p.m. Winston-Salem will have right-hander Spencer Adams (2-0, 4.05 ERA) on the rubber against Lynchburg southpaw Justus Sheffield (2-0, 2.45). Fans can catch the game on 600 AM-WSJS in the Winston-Salem area, as is the case with every Thursday game throughout the season. The game is also available on wsjs.com, as well as wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App. The Pregame Dash will begin at 6:45 p.m.

This quick homestand concludes with a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday, with $1 beers available through the seventh inning. Tickets are still available, and fans can purchase them by calling (336) 714-2287 or visiting wsdash.com.
