Danville's Playoff Chances Slipping Away, Lose Fifth Straight

DANVILLE, VA- The D-Braves dropped their season high fifth straight game tonight, as they fell to the Greeneville Astros 5-0. Starter Ryan Clark picked up his first loss of the season, Clark went five innings allowing three runs on four hits while striking out two Astros bats.

The Astros would take the lead early in the top of the third inning as they plated two runs. Astros designated hitter Justin Garcia lead off the inning with a walk. Garcia was advanced to second on a bunt by Astros second baseman Arturo Michelena. With Garcia on first, shortstop Osvaldo Duarte singled up the middle advancing Garcia to third base. With runners on the corners, left fielder Myles Straw singled up the middle off of a diving Jacob Lanning's glove for an infield hit that would score Garcia to give the Astros the 1-0 lead. With Duarte on third, Straw would steal second base allowing Duarte to score on the throw by Trey Keegan to second base as the Astros lead 2-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, the D-Braves would load the bases only to strand all three runners. Yeudi Grullon would lead off the inning with an infield single. Right fielder Jose Morel then singled to right field, Grullon would advance to third on the hit, and Morel would then advance to second base on the throw from right fielder Kyle Tucker to third base to attempt to throw out Grullon. Braves third baseman would then walk with one out in the inning to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Carlos Castro and Justin Ellison would both fly out to end the inning with no runs scored.

Greeneville would plate another run in the top of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 3-0 after four innings. Astros first baseman Conner Goedert singled up the middle to shallow center field to lead off the inning. Goedert would advance on a wild pitch by Clark, putting him in scoring position at second base with no outs. Right fielder Kyle Tucker grounded out to Lanning, however, Goedert would advance another 90 feet to third base with catcher Kevin Martir waiting on deck. Martir then singled to center field scoring Goedert to give the Astros a 3-0 lead.

The Astros added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 5-0. Braves pitcher Luis Miranda struck out Daz Cameron, and popped up Astros third baseman Randy Cesar to have two outs quickly in the inning. Miranda then surrendered two consecutive walks to Goedert and Tucker. Martir then singled to left center field scoring Goedert to make the score 4-0 Astros. Justin Garcia then singled right field scoring Tucker to put the Astros up 5-0.

The Braves will look to end a five game losing streak tomorrow as they send right hander Patrick Weigel to the mound to face the Astros left hander Salvador Montano. Tomorrow night is Julio Tehran bobble head night, the first 500 fans will receive a bobble head courtesy of Comfort Inn & Suites.
