Birmingham Barons News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - Birmingham Barons starter Tyler Danish followed up his April 28th shutout at Regions Field with another stout performance, but the Barons could not turn nine hits into enough runs in a series opening 2-1 defeat to the Montgomery Biscuits.
Danish, a 21-year-old right-hander, delivered seven innings pitched and surrendered just four hits while striking out five in his third loss of the season. Danish has allowed just eight runs in his past five starts (33.1 IP), dropping his ERA to 3.38 on the year.
Joey DeMichele posted a 2-for-4 night for the Barons, lacing a double into left field before being scored by Keenyn Walker for the Barons lone run of the game.
Catcher Jeremy Dowdy added a double that nearly found its way over the center field wall, extending his hitting streak to five games (8-for-17) since being promoted to the Barons starting catcher spot.
LHP Brian Clark came on in relief, throwing a scoreless eighth inning and lowering his ERA this season to 0.59. Clark needed just eight pitchers (seven strikes) to face five batters, forcing four groundouts and leaving the frame unscathed after recording an error.
Southpaw Jordan Guerrero heads to the hill tomorrow for the Barons, making his first start behind Danish since being swapped in Birmingham's rotation with RHP Carson Fulmer. Guerrero, the White Sox no. 6 prospect, is seeking his first win of the season.
