Macon Knights News Release
MACON, Ga. Its not uncommon to see Macon Knights head coach Mike Hold reviewing a book with 20 to 25 youngsters. Although usually that book contains diagrams of football plays and those youngsters are professional athletes.
While Hold was reviewing a book with some youngsters on Friday, the content of the book was arguably more difficult than any playbook and his audience may have had more energy than any group of professional athletes.
So, what book would require such attention to detail? And what audience could demand that much attention?
Hold found out first hand on Friday as he read The Cat in the Hat to a classroom of kindergartners at Danforth Primary School in Macon.
Hold, joined by Knights offensive specialist Sheddrick Risper and dance team member Tiffany Gibson, participated in the schools 101st celebration of Dr. Seuss birthday.
According to Principal Betty Hill, the schools Read-a-thon was designed to excite and encourage our kids to fall in love with books.
It was great to see the kids excited about reading and I really enjoyed being a part of it, said Hold who enters his second season as head coach of the Knights.
While Hold managed to get through the book with little trouble, he was the first to admit it was a bit of a nerve-wrecking experience.
Most of the kids already knew the story. So by the end of each page, they were already onto the next line before I could get the page turned, said Hold.
Hold will be back to focusing his efforts on football as the Knights are preparing for the 2005 season by holding an open tryout tomorrow at SportsTowne at 10:00 a.m.
Dont miss the action of eight great home games as the Knights kickoff the 2005 season on Friday, April 1st against the Florida Firecats. Season ticket packages are on sale now starting at just $56 and five-game plans start at just $45.
