Damien Giroux Selected by Minnesota Wild in 2018 NHL Draft

Dallas, Texas - The Minnesota Wild selected Saginaw Spirit forward Damien Giroux in the fifth round, 155th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft in Dallas, Texas.
"We are very happy for Damien to reach this goal in his hockey career," said Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill. "Damien has established himself as a leader on our team and if anyone deserved to be drafted today, it is Damien. His hard work and dedication to the game are second to none and we can't wait to watch him continue to grow with the Spirit."
Giroux, 17, is a native of Hanmer, Ontario entering his third season with the Spirit after being selected in the third round, 44th overall by the Spirit in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection. Giroux amassed career-highs in Goals (19), Assists (24), and Points (43) during the 2017-18 season, and was also given the "A" on his jersey by Head Coach Troy Smith.
Giroux is a graduate of the Sudbury Wolves Minor Midget Program, where he was named the Northern Ontario Hockey Association Player of the Year during the 2015-16 season.
Giroux is also a two-time winner of the OHL West Division Academic Player of the Month in the months of January 2018 and December 2016. Giroux was also voted to the OHL Scholastic Team in each of his first two seasons in the league.
