Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings have selected the jersey concept of Dallas Kirkpatrick as the winner of the teams' second annual fan-designed jersey contest. Kirkpatrick'sdesign will be worn by the Wings on December 8th against the Tulsa Oilers during the Wings annual "Teddy Bear Toss" game at Wings Event Center.
The design, which will be worn by Kalamazoo features a yellow and green color scheme, was designed to pay tribute to the Wings affiliation with the Minnesota North Stars then Dallas Stars in the 1990's.
"Knowing that K-Wings were going into their 45th season, I wanted to pay homage to their long and historic history" Kirkpatrick said. "I knew there would be many entries with the red and blue color scheme, so I wanted to be different and stand out. The idea was to take concepts from the color scheme and design from the jerseys the Wings wore in the 90's and put my creativity to it" he added.
Kirkpatrick said he was in awe when he found out he was selected by the organization as the winning designer.
"I've been designing jerseys for local teams for the past 6 years," the native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan said. "It is definitely the most "high-profile" jersey I've ever done and it is awesome that the (Wings) will be wearing my work."
As the winner, Kirkpatrick will be presented with a personalized version of the jersey and he will drop the ceremonial puck at the December 8th game. After the contest, the jerseys will be auctioned off, and all of the proceeds will be donated to the Salvation Army of Kalamazoo.
The Kalamazoo Wings received over 75 unique designs from contestants all around North America during the contest window. Kirkpatrick's design was named to the final four through a fan vote which received over 4,000 ballots, and it was eventually selected as the winner by Wings' management.
